A Step-by-Step Approach

Starting something new can be a bit nerve-racking, so here is a description of what you can expect.

1. A Free Telephone Consultation

My suggestion is to begin by booking a free short telephone conversation, which will allow you to ask any questions you might have about counselling and to briefly discuss what you want to get out of the sessions. There is no requirement for you to talk in detail about why you are looking for counselling.

2. Initial Session

If you decide to go ahead, we will book an initial counselling session at a mutually suitable time. This session will give you a sense of how I work, to see the therapy room, and to discuss the practical details of sessions such as frequency, payment and other practicalities. We will talk about your goals and get a clearer idea of the direction of therapy. There is no commitment at this point, and at the end of the session you can either decide to come back for more sessions, take some time to consider options or choose to work with somebody else.

3. A Block of Weekly Sessions

Once we agree to work together, we will book a block of weekly sessions. In order to make progress and see any changes, it is necessary to have time to settle into the therapeutic process, to gather relevant information and to explore new ways of responding and behaving. At the end of the agreed period of sessions we will review and decide on the next step.
